Biddeston State School values a number of links with the local community and beyond.
Playgroup
Biddeston State School Playgroup is a school-based playgroup. It has a relaxed environment for mums, dads, grandparents and children alike. Playgroup runs every Thursday morning 9am to 11am. Our playgroup encourages children to interact with other children, learn and develop new skills, explore with different crafts, play, and most of all, have fun. It is also a time to make new friends, have time out from the day’s busy schedule and have fun with your children learning and playing. For any queries please don’t hesitate to call the school on 46916145.
Options program in terms 2 and 3
The students in Years 3-6 participate in an Options program giving them the opportunity to engage in a range of projects, including cake icing, robotics, circus tricks, woodworking, science kitchen chemistry, or crafts. Talented community members bring their skills to the school to teach the students.
Biddeston hall
Each year the students attend a variety of functions at the Biddeston Hall, including musical performances and Awards Night.
Oakey C&K Kindergarten
In Term 4 the Oakey C&K Kindy visits our school to assist the pre-prep children transition into Prep at Biddeston SS in the following years. Our whole school loves these visits, with the older students assisting with the tour for the pre-prep children and their parents.
Biddeston store
The Biddeston store generously sponsors the community engagement student award each year.
ANZAC Dawn service
The school was successful in its grant application in 2015 of constructing an ANZAC garden, containing a Lone Pine and memorial plaque. With this, the school hosts an ANZAC Dawn service each year. This is always well attended and is supported by the Oakey RSL with a representative in attendance to speak each year.
Awards night
This is a highlight each year, with many parents, grandparents, family members and the wider community attending to acknowledge student achievement.
P&C community involvement
The P&C has successfully been involved in a number of local events, including the nearby Brisbane West Wellcamp airport Open Days, catering for the local Tractor Pull - a definite highlight of the local community calendar, and hosting our very successful annual Garden Party each year supporting the schoool, White Ribbon Australia and Toowoomba DVAC.
School cluster
Biddeston State School is part of a cluster of schools, including the Gore-Oakey cluster and the Rossvale sporting cluster of small schools, including Biddeston SS, Southbrook Central SS, Mount Tyson SS and Brookstead SS. Belonging to a cluster of schools has many valuable advantages for students and staff, including; colleagial learning and support, students forming friendships beyond their own school, and the transition of Year 6 students to feeder high schools. Generally, students attend Oakey State High School or Pittsworth State High School upon completing Year 6 at Biddeston SS. The students enjoy friendships and friendly rivalry through participating in common music performances and competing at common sporting events.
Oakey CWA nursing home
Each year the Year 5/6 students visit the Oakey CWA Nursing Home to give handmade gifts to the residents as well as perform a number of songs for them. Both the students and residents enjoy this event very much and we believe it is an important experience for the students to 'give back' to the community.
Sporting schools
Each term the school is able to offer free after-school sporting sessions for students, through funding from the Sporting Schools grant. Sports that have been offered to date include, hockey, netball, gymnastics, soccer, athletics, dance, orienteering.
