Biddeston State School provides students with a wide range of sporting opportunities, both within the school and through external competitions.
Inter-House Sport
Biddeston has two sporting houses:
- Campbell House (Blue)
- Leslie House (Green)
Each year, these teams compete for the prestigious Inter-House Trophy, awarded at the annual Awards Night. Students participate in cross country, athletics, and swimming, striving for team success and individual achievements.
Daily Physical Activity & Sporting Schools Program
Biddeston encourages all students to be active, starting each school day with Morning Activity. Additionally, we utilise funding from the Sporting Schools program to provide extra sporting opportunities. These sessions are run during or after school and have previously included hockey, netball, soccer, athletics, gymnastics and dance.
Representative Sport Pathway
Rossvale District Primary School Sport Association
Biddeston State School is part of the Rossvale District, along with:
- Brookstead State School
- Mount Tyson State School
- Southbrook Central State School
Throughout the year, students compete in cross country, athletics and swimming against other schools in the cluster.
In addition to the Rossvale District, Biddeston State School is also part of the Bunya District, made up of many schools.
Students at Biddeston State School have the opportunity to progress through various levels of representative sport:
- Rossvale District – Students compete in swimming, athletics and cross country against other small schools in the Rossvale area.
- Bunya District – Selected students from Rossvale events can compete at the Bunya District level, which includes a larger number of schools. Many Bunya events are held in Dalby, as it serves as the district’s central hub.
- Darling Downs Region – Students selected in Bunya teams or events are eligible to compete at the Darling Downs level. Here, they can trial for a place in a Darling Downs team/position across a range of sports, including rugby league, touch football, hockey, netball and many more.
- Queensland State Titles – Students who make a Darling Downs team go on to compete at the Queensland State Championships, held in various locations across the state.
Age Groups Explained
Representative school sport is based on age groups, not school year levels. A student’s age group is determined by the age they turn in the current calendar year.
For example:
- A student in the 10-year-old age group is considered a 10-year-old for the entire year.
- The simplest way to determine a child’s age group is to ask: "How old will my child be on the last day of this year?"
- If the answer is 11, they will compete in the 11-year-old age group for the entire year.
Typically, only students in the 10-12 year age groups are eligible for representative events and teams. However, 9-year-old students can also compete in swimming and athletics at both the Bunya District and Darling Downs levels.
This pathway provides students with the opportunity to develop their skills, compete at higher levels, and represent their school and region with pride.
