Biddeston State School is located 14 km from Oakey and 29 km
west of Toowoomba on the picturesque Darling Downs. Biddeston SS is a rural
school and identifies as being resilient with strong community networks. Our school
is the hub of local community life and hosts many special events that involve a
broad spectrum of our community, including an ANZAC ceremony, special parades,
Options programme and sporting events. We have a strong and committed P&C
committee and parent body who contribute in many valuable ways to our
student learning and schooling experience.
At Biddeston State School we support and encourage all
students to be the best they can be. Staff, students, parents and community
members make up a committed team who work together to help all students achieve
their best results. Our school and class curriculum supports each learner as an
individual and as a valued member of a learning community. School programs are
developed in a collaborative process to ensure optimum outcome for our
students. Our school believes in fostering, nurturing and motivating our
students to succeed to the best of their ability.
Our school is comprised of four classes operating a
multi-age approach: Prep/Year 1, Year 2, Years 3/4 and Years 5/6. Due to our small
class sizes and school structure, all of our students know, interact and help
each other. 2020 has started with an enrolment of 78 students.
In 2020, Biddeston State School will continue with the
implementation of the Australian Curriculum. Through a consistent and collaborative approach involving
all staff and the school community, implementation of the Annual Implementation
Plan, Investing For Success initiatives, curriculum and NAPLAN action plans, will ensure commitment to school
improvement.
Professional development to update staff is a priority to
ensure the continuation of quality teaching and learning across the school.
ICTs and technology are valued and the use of interactive whiteboards in each
classroom as teaching tools to support contemporary education, preparing students as future global citizens.
We are committed to reducing the school’s environmental
footprint. This has involved students and staff auditing the school’s processes,
identifying areas requiring improvement and enacting responses to these through
practical solutions and learning opportunities to promote and practise sustainability.
Permanent school staff consists of a teaching principal, four
class teachers, four teacher aides, business manager,
cleaner and school's officer. Visiting staff and personnel include a music teacher,
PE teacher, Languages teacher, support teacher (Literacy and Numeracy), special education teacher,
speech language pathologist, English as an additional language/dialect teacher and guidance officer.
We continue to value and foster the importance of our parent
and community partnerships within our school through open communication,
inviting participation and the sharing of information.
